How To Make Instagram Use Less Data

How to make instagram use less data

Almost everybody that uses the most popular Social media apps have in one way or another noticed that among other apps, Instagram and Snapchat have the highest rate of data consumption.

I mean, Instagram is all about photos and videos right? These consumes a lot of data juice especially the video part. So if you follow a lot of video fanatics on Instagram, you might want to reduce the rate at which data is consumed by the Facebook-Sister app.

And that brings us to the topic of today: How to make Instagram use much less data than it used to.

Okay, let me explain something. Whenever you put on your mobile data, many apps start to run in the background without asking for your permission (this permission was granted to them when installing the app), notifying you of events that happened while your data was off. Instagram is one of these apps. So in essence, as far as you did not sign out or log out on your Instagram the last time you used it, whenever you put on your data again, it’s going to start loading in the background, searching for notifications and updates, thereby consuming your data without your even opening the app.

So now, on an Android phone, the only way to stop these apps from using up your mobile data from the background is to Restrict background data. How do you do that?

  1. Open your settings
  2. Tap on “Data Usage”
  3. Click on “Options”
  4. Check the “Restrict Background Data”

The downside of this is, you will not get notifications from any App at all until you open that particular App. So for instance, you will receive Facebook Notifications only when you open Facebook. But at least, your data remains intact once you don’t view or open any App.

So now, let’s get to our main topic today.
